For starters, why would you be looking for online blues guitar lessons in the first place?

Well, like many people you may have found that it is pretty easy to find guitar teachers within your local town or city, but finding someone who can help you to specifically learn blues guitar is much tougher.

Secondly paying for numerous one hour long lessons with a guitar tutor can be enormously expensive. Those individual lesson costs can soon mount up!

This is why many people just like you find themselves turning to a search online in their quest to learn blues guitar. This in itself can lead to hours or days of painful frustration when you find that there are a lot of sites out there that offer guitar lessons, but very few good sites that offer blues guitar lessons in particular.

Sometimes your online search will throw up some sites offering free blues guitar lessons, but you will find in general that you get what you pay for. They are free for a reason! Enough said.

If you want to learn how to play blues guitar quickly and effectively then you need to look for lessons that will teach you all the tricks of the blues guitar legends right from the start, so that tricks like ‘Tweedlies’, Hammer-ons’and ‘Pinch harmonics’, (guitar squeals), will become second nature to you and have your friends (audience) gasping at how quickly you’ve been able to play fantastic blues guitar solos.

After all, you’ll be wanting to be able to play some decent blues licks and be able to use sliding “harmony lines”, just like the Allmans do in ‘Stormy Monday’, as quickly as possible, won’t you?

Try to find a product or site that offers you video tutorials that you can easily watch and copy at your leisure. Look for a site that will have you playing killer blues guitar solos very quickly and if they also offer easy to understand scales and fingering patterns with lots of examples you can use, as well as MP3’s that you can listen to, then you are probably going to have all that you need to get started quickly.

Finding exactly the right online blues guitar lessons may take you some time, but can be more than worth the effort as it will potentially save you a fortune when compared to paying for hourly guitar lessons in the offline world.

Many people want to learn to play the guitar but never get to actually commit to doing it. It’s a real shame because the guitar is one of the most popular musical instruments. It has a great sound and it can be used to play almost any type of song or melody, plus it’s relatively easy to carry around. With all these features a guitar has, it’s certainly not the lack of desire that keeps most people from learning how to play the guitar.

In fact, in most cases it has to do with time and money. Most of us simply don’t have the time to commute to guitar classes or afford to pay for a personal guitar instructor. Moreover, some schools are just not aimed at the average person who just wants to learn to play a few tunes, but rather focus on more advanced guitar courses.

The solution to all this would be teaching yourself how to play the guitar. But it does seem nearly impossible doesn’t it? Well, it used to be. I mean, how is it possible to learn to play music from a book or something, right? It’s not! But we’re not talking about books in the first place!

We’re talking about computer-based multimedia guitar courses that you can buy on the Internet. Think about it, a multimedia course will not only let you know how a tune is meant to be played, but will also allow you to record and compare your performance to the correct one. And as far as practice is concerned, you can see video instruction of basic guitar exercises and play it back as many times as necessary until you “get it”.

Furthermore, a PC-based guitar course will allow you to go at your own pace which may even be faster that the pace many schools or many instructors teach their students. Add to that the fact that you’ll be saving a huge amount of time and money and you have every reason in the world to try an online guitar course at a fraction of the cost.

Tablature as a means of writing music down has been with us for hundreds of years, but many people today look down on tabs as a third rate method of musical communication. In fact, tablature is not a dumbed down version of conventional musical notation, rather what we call sheet music grew from a need for more versatility in notation as music became more complex in medieval times. Electric Guitar Tabs have been a great help to the many people who have taken up the electric guitar and who wanted to get down to the business of playing as quickly as possible.

Conventional music notation has much more to communicate than tabs, but if you already know more or less how the song sounds, and are prepared to work at your own interpretation, then there is nothing wrong with using tablature.

guitarists composing music using tabs and sharing the results of their work on the internet have brought a wide range of music within reach of amateur musicians who never learnt to read music. To some guitarists learning to read music is a waste of time that would be put to better use expressing their feelings through music. This attitude is at odds with the idea that the more theoretical knowledge you have, the greater the pool of resources at your disposal for expressing your ideas.

Tablature, on the other hand, allows the guitarist to get to know the basic piece of music in his own way, and use his musical intuition and flair for improvisation to produce a musical work which will be as much his own work as the original composer\’s. For that reason electric guitar tabs are a boon to the electric guitar player who does not want to just produce a copy of someone else\’s work.

You can find electric guitar tabs in music stores along with conventional written music, but the quickest and best place to look for electric guitar tabs is on the internet. Even though there\’s a legal dogfight going on about tab publishers infringing the rights of the original composer, many tabs are still available for free. However you need to exercise your discernment when making use of tablature produced by amateur guitarists. You might need to change things around a little if they don\’t sound right.

As for the electric guitar player who wants to broaden his musical knowledge, tablature also allows the guitarist to learn new chords, scales or modes very quickly.

Finally a reminder that using electric guitar tabs to learn new material is not a walk in the park – you need to supply some of the information which is otherwise written into sheet music. You need to have some idea of the note values and a basic understanding of time signatures and tempo. What that boils down to is that you can hear the music in your head, and you just want to know where to put your fingers on the fret board. That is what guitar tabs were originally made for.

Solution Finders

Picking up a guitar and expecting to instantly play like Jimi Hendrix isn’t realistic. But, picking up a guitar, taking basic lessons and learning the ropes and building on them is.

The fact of the matter is a guitar isn’t the easiest instrument in the world to learn, or there’d be thousands and thousands of Jimi Hendrix knock offs out there. However, good guitar lessons can really help anyone learn to play with a basic proficiency.

So, how do you determine a good guitar lesson from a bad one?

That’s going to depend a lot on your proficiency going in. If you’re just starting out, you’ll want guitar lessons that teach you:

* The basics of the instrument. This means the different parts, what they are and how they work.

* Basic fingering techniques. Playing the guitar is all in the fingers. If you don’t know where to put them or how hard to apply pressure and so on, you will never sound like Jimi!

* Basic cords, tabs and so on. You need the fundaments down to build on to become proficient in playing.

* Theory and music fundamentals. You don’t need to be an expert in music theory, but good guitar lessons will give you a minor run down and will begin to expose you to reading music so you can move on by yourself in between lessons or once you complete them.

* Exercises. Going back to that fingering techniques statement, the only way to really get them down is to practice. Good exercises that help the mind, fingers and ears work together are always smart. Great guitar players instinctively know where their fingers need to go on the neck, and they learned by practicing and through exercises.

* Baby steps for learning. It’s all fine and well to understand the notes, the fingering positions and build up speed and accuracy, but if you aren’t learning at least very basic songs, you won’t feel like your accomplishing anything. Good guitar lessons begin giving you “something to take home” as quickly as possible while still working to instill the basics.

* Repetition. It’s not a word most people relish hearing, but when it comes to guitar lessons, repetition can be important. The more you practice, the better you’ll get.

Now that you know what to look for in guitar lessons, it’s time to figure out where to get them. A lot of people enjoy taking lessons in person, but others would rather learn a little on their own.

Courses can be had in local music stores, through books and even online through downloadable programs. Any of these can teach you the basics and do it well, but remember, it’s up to you to apply what you learn.

Good guitar lessons can only go so far in teaching, the real proof in the pudding, so to say, will come from the player him or herself. Practice, patience and a desire to learn the steps and build on them will separate the real players from those who simply know the ropes.

A real passion, too, doesn’t hurt in defining the best of the best. It all, however, starts with solid guitar lessons.

Not that long ago, the only way to learn to play guitar was by taking private lessons or just teaching yourself by plucking away at it long enough. Thanks to the internet, though, that isn’t the case anymore. There are many online materials that can teach you how to play guitar even if you’re a beginner and have never had lessons before. In fact, you can even teach yourself.

First of all, obviously, you’ll need a guitar. You can get a used one on eBay, through a pawn shop, or even a music studio that sells guitars. If you think you’ll be making a long term commitment to playing the guitar, you may want to invest in a new one. Amazon.com is also a good resource for finding both used and new guitars, since there are many product reviews that will tell you which ones are best for beginners.

Next, you need to decide on what type of lessons will be best for you. If you want a real online instructor to consult with, that’s one thing; you’re probably best off looking for private instruction in that case. If you want to teach yourself, there are plenty of ebooks and online courses you can take. Just make sure the one you choose has good, clear instructions, and preferably videos and audio files to back up the written material. After all, learning an instrument is all about proper technique, and of course the sound you produce.

Lastly, think about how much communication you want with a real instructor. Many online courses offer email support, forums, or FAQs. If you’re just learning how to play guitar as a beginner and haven’t had lessons before, you may want a course that includes dedicated support from real instructors.

There are plenty of resources out there to get started learning guitar. Remember, your progress will ultimately be up to you and how much time you spend practicing every day.

It’s tough to find someone to teach your child an instrument. It’s hard to find a reputable place that has great teachers and a budget friendly program. I learned guitar in the late 1980’s when hair-do’s and technique were more important than substance. There was this place locally called People’s Music in Queens, NY that was your run in the mill mom and pop instrument retail store. I bought my first guitar there for $300 bucks which I paid for with the money from my paper route.

Now, interestingly enough, Aria Pro and paper routes for 11 year olds no longer exist. Kids today have access to Sam Ash and the like for their instrument purchases and as far as finding a job to pay for their instrument well that’s a different story. Mom and Dad probably pay for the thing.

Needless to say, I took lessons for two years and built a great relationship with my teacher. He taught me all sorts of things, or tried to, and I never practiced! Mom was just happy that I was doing something constructive and found something I liked. She was a big proponent of role models and looked to my guitar teacher as one.

After the two years, my guitar teacher told me that he was leaving and was giving me his number in case I wanted private lessons. I of course told my Mom and we obliged. Apparently everyone else did too as the store closed down soon after that.

Years later when I was old enough to understand, or care for that matter, he told me how bad the place was run and how the owner didn’t really care for his teachers. I ended up taking lessons for 4 years privately and today, almost 20 years later, I am still playing professionally I might add.

So what was it- the love of the instrument or the teacher that got me to play? It was the teacher and I’ll tell you why. Music lessons are great for anyone that want to learn the instrument of their choosing. But great teachers- those are few and far between.
When I started teaching guitar, I did it for the money obviously. I had an average of thirty students and like my guitar teacher of the 80’s, I taught in a Mom and Pop Retail store. As time went on, I realized what my old guitar teacher gave me that was way more important than my love of music: it was a friendship and mentorship that would last a lifetime.

When I started incorporating this into my teaching style, not only did I see the results in the playing of my students, but the turnover rate of kids falling out of the lesson program declined dramatically.
So what did I do that was so great?

1.I listened. We always begin a lesson with just chatter. Believe me, I remember being a 12 year old kid with divorced parents and sometimes it is just great to have someone to listen to you. A meaningful “How are you?” goes a long way.
2.Laughter. To this day, I do not take myself seriously. Yeah, I’ve recorded albums and I’ve gotten my music licensed on TV – but what does that mean to your student? I made the learning environment fun. All the pretentious babble about you and what you do and how you do it can wait.
3.Listen to what they want to do. I briefly had a guitar teacher that was all about making me a solo player- like all the metal players. He was adamant about it and made me do all these boring scales. Don’t get me wrong- scales are important but he never told me what to do with them. It wasn’t until my 80’s guitar teacher asked me “So what do YOU want to learn?” that I understood all the scale babble. He inserted all the difficult stuff in our lessons without me knowing.
4.With that said- songs, songs, and more songs! Write down what your student listens to and then make it a goal to learn the songs he or she likes. When learning those songs, pick out the little techniques in it that give it character and incorporate it into you lesson. For example, if he or she hasn’t learned a trill yet and you hear it in the song, point it out while listening to it and make it part of the lesson for that day. Hearing what something sounds like in a song they love goes a long way.
5.Have fun. When you are bored I guarantee they’ll get bored too.

Now, we all have the students that will never be able to play an instrument for whatever reason but their parents make them. I am not saying that by using these teaching techniques that every student you encounter will be a pro in no time. All I am saying is that once you build a strong healthy relationship with your student you will be their friend and that is something that lasts a lifetime no matter what.
