Is it worth it to take acoustic guitar lessons?

November 18th, 2009

i have been playing the acoustic guitar for a while. i usually find the tabs and play them. like i can play easy songs like secondhand serenade some all time low and stuff of that sort. but is it worth it to get lessons? do i really need to know chords and stuff? i am already a drummer so rhythm and beat is no problem for me. i know a lot of guitarists are self taught but am i missing anything by forgoing lessons? thanks

I took some lessons when I was a kid and I got a lot out of them.
I was a self-taught player and had learned about all that I was going to learn on my own. The few lessons I took really opened my eyes to some new things.

i depends on the type of music you want to play

if you want to learn Bluegrass, Jazz or Classical, you should get lessons

if not you really don’t need lessons

i always believe in lessons. Even if u think ur getting nothing out of them u definatly are. If you werent going to lessons you would be teaching urself incorrect technique and u wouldnt be practicing enough. If you’re bored with the lessons and finding it too easy, then ask ur teacher to find something harder for u to play. And dont forget those nasty scales and exercises. They are brilliant!!!

yes! lessons will improve your technicality. for instance it will help you learn how to read complicated musical patterns and different key signitures and also different clefs
