You have to go to the store (or many stores) and pick out the one that’s right for you based on what you think of the sound and the feel and the price and i suppose the looks, too.

Well, it really all depends on how much experience you have and how much your willing to spend. If your a beginner, in all honesty, you should get yourself a guitar in the $100-$200 range. Check into brands like Squire and Epiphone. If you like more of the tone of Fenders go for Squire, and for Gibson; Epiphone. My first guitar is a Washburn Lyon from Target and I just played at a concert last night with it and it sounded great! As far as amps go, I highly recommend looking into the Line 6: Spider III – 15 Watt, it’s $100 and is LOUD for an amp of that size. It also includes distortion with basic effects. One last thing that you might want to look into if you want effects is getting a multi-effect pedal. I have the Zoom G1, it has a wide variety of effects that you can use and sounds great!

Make sure that you try out everything first BEFORE you buy. Although this setup works perfectly fine for me it may not for you, but it probably will.

You didn’t have a real Strat then. It is one of the best sounding and most versatile guitars made. The Mexican Strat is an excellent value. Personally I won’t play anything but a tube amp. It is hard to make suggestions on either since you didn’t mention your budget.

For the guitar go with a Bunker.

Dave Bunker the best guitar’s I’ve ever seen. I’ve never heard a bad review on them, I was blown away, and everyone who’s seen my Bunker MVP Magnum is blown away. It sustains like Les Paul 4x it’s weight. The reason is this patent they have on their "Tension Free Neck" which is a bar taking all the string tenion leaving the neck and fretboard free.

The tone quality is absurd, the sustain better than anything i’ve played, and the guitars themselves are just beautiful. Reasonably priced too, they sell factory direct online. I think it’s http://www.bunkerguitars.com. They’ve got a few different models, i want to get a David Laurence series later on, but i love my MVP. If you like strat type’s their Classic ‘57 is the best strat types i’ve ever seen.

    Hope that helps!
