Are there any electronic keyboards that FEEL exactly like a piano?
September 25th, 2009I grew up playing classical piano on concert grands and the likes (musical schools).
Now I’m in a small place and only have room for an electronic keyboard.
I don’t know much about keyboards, other than that you can get *weighted* keys to help simulate the feel of playing a piano. in your opinions, are there any keyboards out there that really, REALLY give you the sensation of playing piano keys? Speakers that can put out a good volume would be nice too
thanks
Roland pianos are the closest thing to a real piano. You can even get digital pianos that look exactly like a grand piano but smaller. The HP207 is probably the best for your situation. It has keys that feel like ivory and also have that distinct "click" feel as grand piano keys have. I have played theses before and if you close your eyes, you would never know that it wasn’t real.

hey there!
two options for you. if your want something more portable, with all 88 keys and 32 note polyphony (that means 32 notes will sound at the same time, this is very important if you use a sustain pedal at all) and a weighted feeling, go for a roland… they’re not cheap, new I would say between $1500 and $3000. Most of the pianist I’ve worked with who gig around have Rolands and really like them a lot. you’ll need to buy accessories to go with it though, for example the sustain pedal may or may not come with your purchase
I own a yamaha clavinova. its a digital upright piano, fits nicely in my little apartment. I bought it on a payment plan so the $2000 it cost didn’t kill me. it has weighted keys and pedal attached, and not a lot of crazy computer-y extras. I’ve moved it three or four times now and it’s basically a really heavy keyboard with an attached stand.
check out these websites and see what you think… also, there’s nothing more fun than going to the local music store and playing around on all their instruments!

The closest I have found have been the Kawai MP series stage pianos.

There are keyboards that strive to come close – but are not comparable to a fine piano. We have a Steinway grand – and five electronic keyboard we take out for gigs. Because of having to carry them, NONE of them have weighted action – but some have velocity-sensitive adjustable action. Ehh – a compromise. The quality of sound is another matter – we have some Rolands that are stunning – especially the harpsichord and organ sound (piano is harder to emulate – or we are just REALLY fussy . .). Everything is life is a compromise – I would rather play in a good *keyboard* than a rotten piano. At a competition a few years ago, I had taken about 30 of my school vocal students. The upright in the room was DREADFUL – so I drove home ( nearby) and came back with an electric keyboard!!!!
